I’m currently uploading my newest video; LET’S PLAY: Sally Acorn in Sonic The Hedgehog!
Okay, I know what you’re thinking: “Oh great, another Sally Acorn fan going on a rant.” But hear me out! Sally Acorn is one of the important characters in the Sonic franchise, and it’s honestly a shame that she’s been sidelined for so long.

Unlike the typical “damsel in distress,” Sally is a strong, smart, and capable leader. She wasn’t just tagging along for the ride—she was out there making plans, leading missions, and actually standing toe-to-toe with Robotnik. And this was in the 90s! Back when most female characters in cartoons were just love interests or background characters. Sally was different—she had depth, she had a role beyond just “Sonic’s girl,” and she could fight her own battles.
I think that’s why so many fans (myself included) gravitated toward her. While Amy Rose got stuck in the “obsessed fangirl” role for years, Sally was out here strategizing and taking charge. And yeah, maybe that’s because she had the advantage of appearing in Sonic SatAM and the Archie Comics, where she had more time to develop as a character. But that just proves how much potential she has!
The frustrating part?
She’s basically been erased from official Sonic media. If you want to see anything Sally-related these days, you have to turn to fan projects—fan art, mods, and even a fan-made SatAM continuation. Meanwhile, recent legal documents confirmed that Sega actually does own the rights to Sally and the Freedom Fighters. So… why aren’t they using her?

Would it even be possible to bring Sally back? YES, but Will Sega actually do it? That’s where things get complicated.
There have been plenty of missed opportunities. Sonic Frontiers introduced a whole new setting—the Starfall Islands—which could have been a perfect place to reintroduce Sally without messing with Sonic’s “main” continuity. Sega could’ve easily made her part of a new faction or storyline, satisfying both longtime fans and newcomers. But instead, we got… well, no Sally.
We did get this new cuties though….

Possibility vs. Probability
Creatively? There’s nothing stopping them from bringing her back. Legally? Also not an issue anymore. But the real problem is that Sally (and the entire Freedom Fighters crew) are a reminder of Sega’s past struggles—especially the messy and “recent” legal battles surrounding the Archie Comics. Between that and Sega’s general hesitation toward Western-created Sonic content, it’s not looking great.
But hey, maybe one day they’ll realize what they’re missing out on. Sally Acorn isn’t just another forgotten character—she’s a part of Sonic history, and she deserves a place in the franchise again. Until then, we’ll just have to keep the flame alive in the fan community.
And Sega… if you’re reading this—do the right thing.
